Negele supports LUFA's contemporary training opportunities

Continuous automation of turbidity measurement at the Dairy Education Center

LUFAThe Dairy Education Center of the LUFA Nord-West, the Agricultural Investigation and Research Institute, stands for practical training and goal-oriented learning. It offers numerous vocational training opportunities in the dairy professions as well as dairy master craftsmen courses and the corresponding continued education seminars.

In the Technikum, a modern, fully equipped small-scale dairy, virtually the full range of dairy products can be produced according to the latest methods and techniques. The production processes are continuously monitored by measurement and control procedures that are in accordance with the hygienic requirements of the food industry.

For several years now, the phase separation of milk and water and the separation of cleaning agents have been performed using the ITM-2 turbidity meters from Negele.

In 2007, trainees installed a new, freely programmable fermenter system with a disintegrator and filling system.
Because the phase separation of products using inspection glasses and stop watches no longer met modern training requirements, multiple ITM-2 turbidity meters from Negele were installed for the precise and reliable phase separation of milk and water and for separating cleaning media.

Currently, the product-water mixture is still being separated by trainees using a switch button in the visualization display. When certain turbidity values are reached, the system changes from channel to product and vice versa.

In 2009, a new curd cheese line was built that is used to teach trainees how to manufacture cream cheese using the separator method.
Here, too, the product-water phase separation was automated using Negele ITM-2 turbidity sensors.  After a certain turbidity value is reached, the dry matter content of the product is examined and the product is either packaged or further processed.

In 2010 a further step toward a modern, practice-oriented training environment was taken:
In May, Negele provided the training dairy with an additional four ITM-3 turbidity meters, the successor version to ITM-2. These are used in the tank farm, cheese dairy and butter dairy, as well as for evaporation/drying. Here, too, phase separation using an inspection glass and stop watch is now a thing of the past.
